92. Whispering is a craft

Whispering is a craft. You have to talk loud enough for the actor to hear but silent enough for the audience not to notice.

‘Whispering’ Willy Wishaw had been doing it on the West End stage for seven decades. He’d started in the late twenties, when he was still a boy and had to step in for a regular prompter who had fallen ill. The lead actor hardly knew any lines but the audience didn’t have a clue. Willy had fed the dialogue expertly. He hadn’t been out of a job since.
